Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has revealed that Jose Mourinho is among a huge list of names being considered to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. The former Roma boss has been out of work since being dismissed in January.
Mourinho has already been linked with a number of high-profile jobs across the world including at Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, Newcastle, Real Madrid, and a host of international teams as well. As well as his continued flirting with heading to Saudi Arabia, Mourinho has been getting around.
He remains a fan favourite at SW6 with Chelsea fans chanting his name two weeks ago during the 2-2 draw against Brentford. The online supporters have also been vocal in their admiration for the Special One, claiming that his mentality would be invaluable for a young group of players.
As a 61-year-old without much domestic success since leaving Chelsea for the second time in 2015, the optics of a return are unlikely. It doesn't mean he isn't being eyed up by other top clubs, though.
Bayern, who have made Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso their priority target, will be one of many sides looking to change manager in the summer. Tuchel has confirmed his departure after less than 18 months in charge, and new chief Eberl has opened up on the hunt.
“There are more than four names on our list, but far from 40," he said cryptically. «Our task is to think everything through, so the list includes very unusual candidates.»
