Liverpool will go all out to repeat the ‘good fun’ of chasing four trophies as they did in 2022, despite a risk of burnout.
Jurgen Klopp’s side face two big cup ties in four days with an FA Cup third-round trip to Arsenal on Sunday followed by a Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday.
They are also top of the Premier League and into the knockout stages of the Europa League.
It is reminiscent of two seasons ago, when their bid for a historic Quadruple saw them win the FA Cup and League Cup, but finish runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League. They slipped to fifth the following season, but Klopp is adamant they aim to win the lot, despite Dominik Szoboszlai joining a lengthy injury list and Mo Salah and Wataru Endo going away on international duty.
‘The season with three finals and a Premier League (title bid) was intense while we were in it, but it was good fun as well,’ he said. ‘I would not change it for anything. It was great. The two finals against Chelsea were two of the best draws I saw in my life — unbelievably intense, technically at a super-high level — so it was a wonderful experience.
‘Obviously a Champions League final is not on the horizon, but maybe there is a Europa League final, which is really difficult to reach because there are a couple of really good teams in it. But you can’t really think like that.
‘This summer will be longer for some as there is the Euros as well. It’s always like that. We cannot go out of a competition just because we think we might have a problem next year. ’
