Kyle Walker almost found himself in another on-field fight — this time with Everton assistant Ian Woan.
The Manchester City defender was competing at Goodison Park in a contest that ended with a 3-1 win for Pep Guardiola's side in a contest that nearly surprisingly boiled over.
While Jack Harrison gave the Toffees the lead, goals from Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez put City, leading to growing tensions in the Everton ranks.
This nearly came to a head when the ball went out of play for a Man City throw-in, with Walker charging over to the technical areas to get the ball for a quick throw.
Sean Dyche's no.2, Woan, kept hold of the ball leading to Walker giving him a small shove as he looked to get the ball back into play as quickly as possible.
Clearly unhappy, Woan pushed Walker in the back, leading the defender to turn around with a look of someone who was about to get into an altercation.
However, Guardiola swiftly intervened and pushed Walker back onto the field of play in order to avoid the potential drama of some touchline handbags.
It would have been the second time in two matches that Walker would find himself in a scuffle having been in conflict with Felipe Melo in the aftermath of the Club World Cup final victory over Fluminense.
Melo took exception to alleged comments made by Jack Grealish during the match, but taking to Instagram, Walker stuck up for his teammate by jokingly declaring: «No one starts on my Jack!»
