OVER the past five years of Kenny Bruce’s ownership, Larne fans have grown accustomed to expecting the unexpected — and they got another taste of it in the 4-0 win over Newry City.
It came in the form of a debut display from Jaziel Orozco, a 19-year-old who has arrived in east Antrim on loan for the season from MLS side Real Salt Lake.
Orozco, born is El Paso, is seen as a promising young talent in Utah and they believe this year is an important one in the development of the defensive midfielder.
After his clearance came through earlier in the week, Orozco was handed his bow by boss Tiernan Lynch in Saturday’s victory.
Supporters also liked what they saw from his performance, naming him as their man of the match, as the Invermen moved up to fourth in the Premiership table.
The young midfielder, who has been called up by USA Under-20s and trained with the Mexican senior squad, has been well versed on what he needs to do succeed in Irish League football.
“Tiernan, the gaffer, has got me into the system in training and worked hard with me,” he said.
“He has been telling me about how to get physical which is an important part of this League. The rest of the players have also been encouraging me about getting my touches, be confident and be strong.
“I felt as the game went on, I had the confidence to do that and the guys around me made sure they helped me as well.
“Every day is really just about trying to get the best out of everyone, whether on the training pitch or in the gym.
“It’s all about preparing for game day, recovering afterwards and making sure you’re ready for a good performance.”
