Chelsea's season continues to fluctuate for manager Mauricio Pochettino who now has more injury problems to deal with after his side won their final home game of the calendar year against Crystal Palace last night.
It was a goal from Mykhailo Mudryk that set the tone for the Blues early on but the Ukrainian was subbed off in the second half after picking up a knock following a heavy challenge. He stayed down but it was unclear whether the substitution was pre-planned and a coincidence or not.
Following the clash, Pochettino remained quiet about the wellbeing of the winger but Mudryk himself took to social media to celebrate the win. While he didn't mention anything about a possible issue he'd picked up, he did share a photo of him, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Conor Gallagher celebrating his goal with the caption: «Pure happiness [smiley face emoji].»
One star that has had an injury update however was Romeo Lavia, the 19-year-old coming off the bench to make his debut at Stamford Bridge last night. Replacing Ian Maatsen just before the hour mark, Lavia had an assured cameo performance given it was his first appearance in over six months following an ankle injury earlier in the season.
He did well to link up with Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher in midfield and put in some solid challenges into a strong Palace side that looked threatening at times in the second half. However, after what had seemed like a perfect start to his time with the Blues, Pochettino admitted it wasn't all good news.
