Ange Postecoglou's injury problems have all-but-cleared up at Tottenham. From fielding a team made up of full-backs and rotational midfielders, the Australian is now close to a fully fit squad.
Spurs will need it, too. As Manchester United start to close the gap on Aston Villa in fifththere is a chance of being dragged back into the mix for the Champions League places.
It's currently advantage Tottenham as they sit one above Villa and still five clear of United, but with 14 games left to play there is still room for things to change. The Lilywhites have managed to keep their place on the outside of the title race thanks to a run of five games without defeat following the 4-2 loss at Brighton before the New Year, but they are also without consecutive wins ain mid-December too.
Luckily for Postecoglou, this is the best spot his squad has been in for some months. With James Maddison now firmly back in the fold he could be reunited with midfield partners Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr. Behind them is a solid defence that once more resembles the team that surged to the top of the table by November.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have restarted their partnership together in front of Guglielmo Vicario, while both first choice full-backs are available for selection. The injury problems for Spurs are no longer having a major impact on the squad.
Manor Solomon remains out with his knee injury. Speaking last week Postecoglou revealed that he is not yet back in the mix. «He had another procedure on Monday on his knee,» the head coach said. «Nothing major but we're looking at another two or three weeks for him.»
