Having emerged as a potential replacement for top scorer Jonathan David towards the end of last season, Nigerian forward Gift Orban now looks set to complete his move to Lille from Belgian side Gent.
According to Foot Mercato this afternoon, a deal is close to being struck with the player’s representatives – once that hurdle has been cleared, the transfer will be finalised once the Canadian international leaves Les Dogues.
David, who scored 24 goals in Ligue 1 last season, has reportedly attracted interest from Premier League clubs, with Tottenham Hotspur in particular identifying the 23-year-old as a prospective replacement for Harry Kane.
Orban, meanwhile, has managed 20 goals in just 22 appearances in all competitions this past campaign, in what was his first year in Flanders since his arrival from Stabæk. Lille will be hoping Orban can have the same impact up front as David, who also arrived from Gent back in 2020.
