Lille OSC confirm that Andrej Ilić (23) will be operated on after the player fractured his fibula during the Coupe de France exit to Olympique Lyonnais.
Ilić was forced off the pitch in the 84th minute and will undergo surgery today after his second start for Les Dogues became a nightmare. The forward had only joined the club on transfer deadline day from Norwegian side Vålerenga for a fee €4 million.
It was hoped that Ilić would provide an alternative to Jonathan David (24) who seems likely to be leaving in the summer. Lille manager, Paulo Fonesca had identified the need for a striker before the start of the season and it appeared as if the club had finally found the right profile to help them with their aims for the second part of the campaign.
However, it looks as if Ilić could be out for a lengthy period as he begins the first step in a long road to recovery.
