Phil Foden goal celebration explained after Man City masterclass against Manchester United

Phil Foden has previously explained the story behind his new goal celebration for Manchester City.

Foden played a key role in the derby win over Manchester United that saw City win 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Foden scored City's first two goals before being supported by a late strike from Erling Haaland to secure the victory.

Marcus Rashford had opened the scoring for United with a long-range effort in the first half, with City trailing 1-0 at half-time. Pep Guardiola's team responded with three second-half goals at the Etihad to get the win in the Manchester derby and move back to two points behind Liverpool at the top of the league table.

After Foden scored both of his goals for City, he performed a celebration that he has been showing off in recent weeks. The celebration involved Foden imitating holding a gun, and the City star has previously explained the story behind it.

Foden scored a hat-trick in City's 3-1 win away at Brentford on February 5, and it was here that he first began performing the celebration. Speaking to Man City's Instagram account, Foden was asked about the celebration.

"It’s a bit of banter between me and the lads," Foden said after the victory at the Gtech Community Stadium last month. "They say I shoot a lot in the five-a-side games. They call me the 'Sniper'.”

Foden has now scored 18 goals with 11 assists in all competitions for City this season. He will be looking to add to his tally when he and his teammates welcome FC Copenhagen to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in the Champions League, before travelling
