West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten has described links with Liverpool as an 'honour' - but admitted that he has yet to be contacted over the sporting director post.
Jorg Schmadtke took the reins temporarily following the turnover of staff within the Anfield hierarchy that saw Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, his successor, depart. With Jurgen Klopp's shock departure looming at the end of the season, there will be a new manager and sporting director at the helm in L4 this summer.
Steidten is among the names being linked with the post. The 44-year-old is highly regarded in Germany for his role at different Bundesliga clubs and has already played a role in bringing the impressive Mohamed Kudus to the London Stadium from Ajax.

One of the clubs Steidten worked for in Germany was Bayer Leverkusen. During his time at Leverkusen, the 44-year-old appointed Xabi Alonso as the club's new manager in October 2022.
Alonso is the reported frontrunner to become Klopp's replacement after impressing in the Budesliga. His side currently sits at the top of the German top-flight.
Speaking after appointing Steidten, Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes offered a glowing endorsement of the now Hammers football chief. He said: "Tim Steidten has consistently proved himself in an extremely demanding field over a long period of time.
"He has had a strong influence on the impressive development and success of Werder in recent years and he made a significant contribution.
