Liverpool are hoping to have made a decision over the appointment of their next sporting director by the end of next month, with at least four candidates potentially in the running - two of which are already working at the club.
That's according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, who offered an update on the current state of play during a live Q&A on Thursday evening. Despite holding a commanding position in all four competitions they are participating in on the pitch this season, the Reds are currently going through a huge transitional phase off it, with iconic manager Jurgen Klopp having announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season after eight-and-a-half years.
The German will be followed out of the door by several of his key backroom staff but as a result of the bombshell announcement, previous sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has already left the club. That has left owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) searching for not only a new manager but also another sporting director who can take the Reds onto a new frontier.

While there has been plenty of speculation around who will replace Klopp in the Anfield dugout, with former midfielder Xabi Alonso currently considered the red-hot favourite, there has been less noise around who will assume control upstairs in the wake of Schmadtke's departure.
