Michael Edwards will return to Liverpool after accepting the role of head of football operations at Fenway Sports Group. Acquiring former AFC Bournemouth chief Richard Hughes as the club's new sporting director will be his first task.
Hughes was the technical director at the Cherries until November and is expected to replace Jorg Schmadtke, after the German's role came to an end following the conclusion of the January window. Edwards, who enjoyed a successful spell as the Reds sporting director until 2022, will now spearhead the post-Jurgen Klopp era after his decision to step down at the end of the season.
Klopp made the bombshell announcement at the end of January that he would be parting ways with the club at the end of the season. Assistant managers Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz as well as, elite development coach Vitor Matos will also end their association with the Reds.

Schmadtke arrived at Anfield in January 2023, but his appointment was always expected to be a short-term solution following the departure of Julian Ward last summer.
One of the first tasks for Edwards after the proposed arrival of Hughes is to find a suitable replacement for the departing German. Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has been installed as the favourite to succeed the 56-year-old, while Ruben Amorim, Julian Nagelsmann and Roberto De Zerbi.
