Liverpool International Jazz Festival returning with big bands and events

Liverpool International Jazz Festival (LIJF) returns to the city to celebrate the best in contemporary jazz music around the world.

The festival was established in 2013 by Liverpool Hope University, and in previous years has included performances from some of Jazz music’s top stars.

The emphasis of the festival is on contemporary instrumental jazz in a variety of styles from international artists, taking audience members on a musical journey that traverses various genres.

Liverpool International Jazz Festival 2024 will take place from Thursday, February 22 to Sunday, February 25 at Liverpool Hope University's Capstone Theatre.

It will include music from some of the most exciting figures in contemporary jazz including concerts by Tommy Smith & Gwilym Simcock, David Helbock's Austrian Syndicate, Attuned Quartet, Yolanda Charles Project pH Instra-mentals and Denys Baptiste: Late Trane. Alongside this there will be a series of other events, to be announced, championing local artists.

Other Festival events include Liverpool Sax Day, after-parties at Metrocola and The Caledonia Pub, a free lunchtime concert of the music of Carla Bley, performed by Liverpool Hope University Big Band, and a special free admission Saturday afternoon event, Liverpool Jazz Celebration, which features sets from Liverpool based artists and bands focusing on original music.
