Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo escapes red card despite lengthy VAR check for tackle on Brentford man
Liverpool's Wataru Endo escaped a red card against Brentford despite a lengthy VAR check.
The midfielder caught Christian Norgaard with a studs up tackle, which was not given as a free-kick on the field at the time.
VAR spent four minutes looking at the challenge before deciding to allow play to go on
talkSPORT reporter Matt Jones said: «Endo won the ball, but left a stud mark on Norgaard. VAR checked it, but the referee did not get sent to the monitor.
»I first thought it was a fine tackle, but they are ones that have been given this season."
Brentford manager Thomas Frank was fuming with the decision and was wagging his finger at Paul Tierney.
The incident comes three days after Endo escaped a red in the Reds' Europa League defeat to Toulouse.
talkSPORT host Mark Goldbridge fumed at the decision and wrote on X: «Endo must be immune to red cards. Very lucky not to have 2 in last 2 games. Ends up with none. But a United shirt on it's different.»
Liverpool won the game 3-0 against the Bees thanks to two goals by Mohamed Salah and a long-range effort from Diogo Jota.
After Darwin Nunez had two goals ruled out for offside the Uruguay international produced the assist for the opener in the 39th minute.
Alexander-Arnold picked out Nunez on the edge of the area and he laid off to Mohamed Salah who tucked a shot past Mark Flekken and inside the far post for a goal of brilliant simplicity.
