Liverpool might have successfully overseen an £150m midfield overhaul this summer, but they were not able to complete all of their desired incoming transfer business.

Ideally favouring a left-sided centre-back, Liverpool had liked the look of Levi Colwill at Chelsea. But once he signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, it soon became clear that, having needed to sign additional midfielders, the Reds’ search for a new defender would have to wait.
The England Under-21s international wasn’t the only centre-back Liverpool were reportedly interested in this summer though. They also found themselves heavily linked with a move for Micky van de Ven, with Reds sporting director Jorge Schmadtke having already signed the young Dutchman once for his former club, VfL Wolfsburg.
