AS IT HAPPENED: Liverpool vs Brighton score updates and analysis
Caoimhin Kelleher 7
Absolutely no chance with Welbeck’s opener but otherwise unemployed until fine stop to deny Dunk in second half.
Conor Bradley 7
Caused chaos among the Brighton defence with direct runs but struggled defensively at times first half up against Estupinan and Welbeck. Tenacious tackling became important after break in keeping up pressure.
Jarell Quansah 7
Occasionally exposed by pace of Brighton forwards early on when covering for Bradley but some excellent defensive moments second half. Brought ball out from the back well and composed in key moments.
Virgil van Dijk 6
Block ahead of Moder unwittingly teed up Welbeck to open the scoring. Dominant in the air but pulled out of position a fair bit in the second half. Booked.
Joe Gomez 8
Saw a lot of the ball operating as an inverted left-back, often in midfield positions. Tidy enough and, more importantly, some good defensive interventions. Booked.
Wataru Endo 7
Speed of Brighton counters difficult to deal with during opening exchanges but soon started to make telling tackles. Second half helped to keep pressure high and some good defensive headers. Booked.
Dominik Szoboszlai 7
Struggled to impose himself before break and a little slow in possession, although created one chance for Salah. Different player second half, close with one shot and hand in second goal. Subbed.
