With Liverpool unlikely to bring in any additions before the January 31 transfer deadline, it's been a quiet month at the front of house for sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.
The 59-year-old is heading towards the final week of what is, as things stand, his last transfer window in the role and if he does leave at the end of his one-year deal in June, Schmadtke will be able to hang his hat on being front and centre of the 'Great Midfield Rebuild' at Anfield last year.
Having already seen Alexis Mac Allister edge close to a move to Anfield before his own arrival, Schmadtke is believed to have had a big hand in concluding deals for Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, who all joined from Bundesliga clubs over a two-month period between June and August at a cost of over £100m.

If that is to be his biggest contribution in the job then history may yet look kindly on the former Wolfsburg chief's work with all three playing their part in a squad that still has so much to chase as we approach the end of January. In the cases of Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, at 23 and 21, respectively, their long-term futures are bright at Anfield.
Schmadtke is likely to continue quietly behind the scenes until his eventual summer departure, should a new contract not be agreed upon, and having already been coaxed out of retirement to take on the biggest job of his career at Anfield last year, it is possible that the former goalkeeper is now into his final months with the Reds.
