Liverpool striker signs new contract after accepting unexpected opportunity

Jayden Danns has seen his progress at Liverpool rewarded with a new contract to cap a memorable few weeks for the teenage striker.

The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on an extended deal having made his first-team breakthrough in recent weeks.

Danns, who has been with the Academy since the age of eight, has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks in the last 18 months having only made his Premier League 2 debut for the under-21 side in January.

Liverpool's injury crisis meant the forward was given a surprise first-team debut late on in the Premier League win over Luton Town last month before then featuring for more than half-an-hour from the bench in the League Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Danns then scored his first senior goals when netting twice as a substitute in the FA Cup fifth-round win over Southampton and also featured during the closing moments of the dramatic Premier League triumph at Nottingham Forest.

The youngster, who was on the bench for the Europa League win over Sparta Prague on Thursday, has 23 goals in 25 appearances at all levels this season.
