Only Tottenham could be 4-0 down after 81 minutes with a tired, disappointing performance yet go on a late blitz that easily could have seen them grab an unexpected point.

The late flurry from Tottenham evened up the stats somewhat, the visiting side in fact had more shots at goal with 19 to Brighton's 14, but only put three on target. The Seagulls had less of the possession with 45% and 379 passes to Spurs' 456 but it was Vicario who had to make five saves to Jason Steele's one.
The hosts did need to make 29 clearances to Spurs' 12 and the visitors hit the woodwork twice through Hojbjerg and Richarlison, with the latter also having two efforts ruled out for offside. It still would have been an injustice to Brighton who hit the post through James Milner and had a Facundo Buonanotte effort ruled out for offside as they tore Tottenham's traumatised backline apart every time they ran through, Joao Pedro the chief tormentor.
Pervis Estupinan's goal just after the hour mark was the killer. Tottenham had started to get a foothold back in the game with chances for Destiny Udogie and Richarlison with an offside finish only for the Ecuadorian to return from injury to launch a sublime effort from distance that dipped into the far corner from 25 yards.
