Manchester United icon Michael Carrick breaks silence on Middlesbrough contract situation

Michael Carrick has expressed his love for Middlesbrough and his desire to achieve success and there is 'no drama' about extending his contract.

Former Manchester United midfielder Carrick signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Riverside club in October 2022, which means his current deal will end after next season. However, Teeside Live is reporting that positive talks have taken place between the former England international and the club officials, and they are close to agreeing on a contract extension.

It is claimed that despite not having the season they hoped for, the club recognises the challenges such as injuries that have affected the campaign. Inside the club, there is a lot of faith in Carrick and a wish for long-term stability, with the current head coach being a crucial part of this.

Carrick isn't too worried about his contract situation at the moment, and he still enjoys his role despite this season being tougher than his first. He said: "I wouldn't say it's major in terms of a big deal, it's not a big deal for me. I'm happy here.

"I'm relaxed about it. Everyone is clamouring for news on something, nothing has changed, I'm here, I love it here, I'm enjoying it. As I've said with the players, things will happen naturally in time.

"There's no deadline, there's no chasing, there's no agendas. I'm just here and working hard. I'm happy, there are no issues, nothing has changed, I love it here."

Middlesbrough currently sit 13th in the Championship table, and take on Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium tomorrow afternoon. Carrick's side are 11 points off the play-off places.
