Manuel Akanji out of Man United clash giving Arsenal yet another title boost over Man City

Arsenal have been handed another potential boost in their hunt for the Premier League title as Manchester City star Manuel Akanji is set to miss their next clash through suspension. The defender received a late red card for a second yellow card challenge in their victory over Brighton.

City hosted Brighton at the Etihad Stadium and after a run of defeats, a return for Rodri brought about a change in the outcome. Two early goals for Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland gave them a much-needed boost but they were given a scare late on for the Seagulls.

A goal from Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati pulled one back for the visitors, who then began to pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser. They wouldn't find that goal though, with City finally finding another three points to add to their total that will take them top of the league — at least for the time being.

The absence of Akanji with a late red card may have come as a huge blow though at the worst time, with their Manchester derby clash with Manchester United up next. That could come as a boost to Arsenal, who have already seen how big a suspension to their rivals can be.

Rodri's omission from three games due to violent conduct may well have played a huge part in defeats to Newcastle in the EFL Cup as well as Wolves and Arsenal in the league. For the Gunners, the focus will almost certainly be on themselves and how they can earn some wins.
