Already mired in an injury crisis, Chancel Mbemba (29) was substituted against Paris Saint-Germain, providing Olympique de Marseille interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset with another selection headache.
Without Bamo Meïté, Jonathan Clauss and Micheal Murillo, Leonardo Balerdi and Samuel Gigot made last-minute recoveries, which allowed them to compete in the 2-0 defeat against PSG in Sunday’s Le Classique at the Vélodrome. However, Mbemba was withdrawn in the second half. Unable to walk, he was helped off the pitch by OM’s medical staff. Naturally, Marseille feared the worst.
In order to ascertain the severity of the injury to his left knee, Mbemba underwent multiple tests on Monday. Those tests have proved reassuring, according to L’Équipe. Only a contusion has been noted, meaning that he will not face a long spell on the sidelines. However, Les Phocéens are not taking any risks and it is therefore likely that Mbemba will be rested in the coming days, meaning it is probable that he will miss Friday’s encounter against Lille OSC.
