A tifo deployed by the Olympique de Marseille fans during Sunday’s Le Classique at the Vélodrome has caused anger amongst the upper echelons of the club, according to RMC Sport.
Whilst Paris Saint-Germain fans weren’t permitted to make the trip to the Véldorome, as they haven’t since 2015, there was no shortage of fanfare and atmosphere ahead of Le Classique, ultimately won by PSG (0-2). As is often the case at the Vélodrome, multiple tifos were deployed by the home fans, one of which is now at the centre of a heated debate.
In the Ganay stand, a tifo of Marseille-born comedian Redouane Bougheraba alongside the UEFA Champions League trophy – one which has been won by Les Phocéens but not be Les Parisiens, was unveiled. The tifo was unveiled ahead of his show at the Vélodrome later this year, making it essentially a marketing stunt of sorts.
This has not gone down well behind the scenes at OM with. Pablo Longoria is particularly vexed by the affair, according to RMC Sport. The president was “annoyed” and “dumbfounded” by the banner, which he believes displays a lack of seriousness and professionalism behind the scenes at the club, with many members of the hierarchy unaware of the nature of the banner that would be unfurled. An enquiry is underway in order to ascertain how the banner was given the green light.
