Mason Mount may be struggling for form since joining Manchester United, but he earned the respect from fans following their defeat to Newcastle.
Supporters spotted the 24-year-old being the only player to stay after the final whistle to applaud the Red Devils in the aftermath of their Carabao Cup exit.
Eddie Howe's Magpies eased into the quarter-finals after dispatching United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
It was another crushing loss for Erk ten Hag's men — their eighth of the season in all competitions as pressure builds on the Dutchman.
And it appears their players were keen to quickly get off the pitch following another humbling.
Some applauded the Old Trafford faithful as they headed straight down the tunnel but only summer signing Mount stayed behind to clap the fans.
Mount, who is yet to score in nine games since joining from Chelsea in a deal rising to £60million, could be seen walking around the pitch to clap those that decided against heading off early.
United fans were quick to praise the 36-cap England international, as one X user said: «He deserves to play more and get his groove back.»
Another commented: «Mason Mount is only player who stayed behind and clapped to the fans, he has my respect.»
A third added: «This shows so much character. Loved to see this from a much vilified Mason Mount. More power to him.»
