Liverpool and Arsenal were reportedly in talks about Mason Mount's future before he joined Manchester United.
Last summer, it was reported that the Reds and Arsenal were interested in Mount while his future at Chelsea was uncertain. However, the Gunners decided to go for Kai Havertz instead because Mount reportedly preferred a move to United.
Havertz joined Arsenal in June last year for £60million plus an extra £5m in add-ons. After this, Mount joined the Red Devils in a deal worth £60m. His contract at Chelsea was due to end this summer, which means he could have left for free if the club had not sold him last year.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that there was initial contact with Chelsea from Liverpool and Arsenal about Mount in April last year. But, he stressed that Old Trafford was always the most likely place for him to go.
Romano wrote on CaughtOffside: "There was also an interesting United story involving Mason Mount, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta alleged to have told confidants that the Gunners were very close to signing Mount from Chelsea.
"My understanding is that there were contacts with both Arsenal and Liverpool while his situation remained uncertain at Chelsea, but this was not in the summer, it was around April when clubs started to ask about Mount deal conditions. That's it, but Man United was always the priority for the player."
