The summer transfer window has only been shut for three days, but Chelsea look to already be eyeing who they may sign in January. Brentford striker Ivan Toney is the early obvious target for the Blues with London rivals Tottenham also showing an interest.
According to the Evening Standard, Toney is under consideration by Chelsea as an option for the upcoming window. Despite acquiring three attackers in the summer with Cole Palmer signing just before deadline day to join Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson who were bought significantly earlier in the window.
Despite welcoming 17 new arrivals across a variety of age groups, sanctioning exits was the main priority for the summer window and that was successfully achieved with over £250million raised from player sales. That number could have pushed £300million had defender Trevoh Chalobah been sold with talks over a permanent move to Bayern Munich firmly on the cards.
However, with the deal advancing on deadline day, there was not enough time to reach an agreement, however the German champions could return for the 24-year-old in January, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
Writing in his latest exclusive column for SPTC today, Jacobs said: “Trevoh Chalobah wanted the move to Bayern, but the German window closed a few hours earlier on September 1 and no agreement was reached.
«Bayern preferred a loan. Chalobah could have gone to Nottingham Forest but wasn’t keen. I don’t see him getting many Chelsea minutes and it wouldn’t surprise me if Bayern come back in with a loan offer in January.” With Chalobah as a graduate of the Cobham academy, any sale would count as pure profit on the books.
