Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he is not pleased with the Premier League fixture change that will see Chelsea travel to Wolves on Christmas Eve. Earlier this week it was confirmed the Blues would be travelling to Molineux on December 24, with a game scheduled for the day before Christmas for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Talk of the initial decision received widespread anger with the Chelsea Supporters' Trust releasing a new statement after the switch was announced: «It is totally unacceptable that Wolves v Chelsea has been scheduled for Christmas Eve,» they write. «Since rumours began to circulate on this issue, the Chelsea Supporters' Trust has been clear that selecting this kick-off time will place another hurdle in the way of many match-going supports. Not only could this lead to staffing issues at Molineux, but holiday transport timetables will further inconvenience supporters.
»On Tuesday 24 October, we requested an urgent meeting with the relevant decision-makers within the Premier League. We expect that this meeting will be held very soon, alongside Wolves 1877 Trust, and the Football Supporters' Association.
«The Chelsea Supporters' Trust will formally request that the Premier League properly consults supporters on this issue and that they reverse this decision.» In the wake of the decision being heavily scrutinised, Pochettino was asked for his verdict where he echoed the thoughts of the disgruntled fanbase.
«Our fans not happy? Me either,» he said bluntly. «23 [December] is my anniversary with my wife and I need to travel to Wolves and then 24th for Argentine people is a really important night and hope to arrive in time to celebrate an important night.
