Chelsea continue to work on trimming Mauricio Pochettino's squad as we edge closer to the transfer window deadline
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that he does not want to sell Ian Maatsen - but he would be open to sending the youngster out on loan. The Blues have seen a number of players leave the club on deadline day including Mason Burstow and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Any deal for the 21-year-old Dutchman would be an initial loan deal with an obligation to make it permanent for a fee in excess of £30million. Maatsen, however, has not agreed personal terms yet with the Clarets.
According to GiveMeSport, Pochettino would accept a simple loan move for Ian Maatsen if it suited all parties. However, he would disagree with a permanent sale and Chelsea could end up frustrating their new manager.
Ben Chilwell remains Pochettino's first choice left-back with Maatsen coming off the bench ahead of Cucurella to replace the England international in matches so far this season. However, the Blues are still keen on trimming down their squad and Maatsen may be sacrificed after Cucurella failed to complete a move to Old Trafford.
