How Chelsea are predicted to lineup vs Bournemouth amid latest Romeo Lavia injury blow
Chelsea are awaiting the results from a scan on Romeo Lavia, football.london understands, after the midfielder hurt his ankle during a training session on Friday.
The 19-year-old, who signed from Southampton for £58million last month, has not played for the Blues yet and was expected to be in contention against AFC Bournemouth next weekend. However, this latest setback could rule him out for a bit longer – but the severity of the problem has not yet been discovered.
The results from the scan are expected before the end of the weekend where Chelsea will find out how long Lavia will be sidelined for. Fingers crossed it will not be a major setback for the Belgium international but the chances of him being fit enough to face Bournemouth next Sunday are very slim.
So it looks like Chelsea will have no other option than to use the same midfield they have in the previous two games. Conor Gallagher, who has impressed this season, looks set to keep his place in the team, working alongside Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
In goal, it looks like Robert Sanchez will continue. The Spanish goalkeeper has been at Cobham over the past few days with a small group of his teammates who have also not been selected for international duty.
Reece James is close to recovering from his hamstring injury but he may be left out of the game against Bournemouth with Mauricio Pochettino not wanting to potentially aggravate the problem. Considering how well Malo Gusto has been playing, as well, there is no rush for James to come straight back into the XI.
