Eberl has been out of work since being sacked by RB Leizpig in September. His exit came after strong reports that he was set to replace Hasan Salihamidzic, who was dismissed by Bayern at the end of their dramatic Bundesliga-winning campaign.
Over at Liverpool, Julian Ward left his position as sporting director at the end of the 2022-23 season, just a year after he succeeded the long-term holder of the post, Michael Edwards.

Jorg Schmadtke was named as the short-term replacement for Ward. A veteran of several similar roles in Germany, Schmadtke came out of retirement to work in the Premier League, signing a short-term deal with the Reds. However, it remains to be seen whether the 59-year-old will remain at the club for the longer term.
Eberl was named as a potential successor for Schmadtke in a report by BILD earlier this month (October), which suggested that chiefs on Merseyside had made contact with the 50-year-old.
And in a new report from Christian Falk and Tobias Altschaffl in BILD, Eberl is said to be "honoured" that Liverpool are showing "renewed interest" in him. However, it also states that he continues to favour a move to Bayern, suggesting it is "clear priority."
