Kylian Mbappe is on course to become the hottest free agent on the planet in six months' time - but not if Liverpool get their way.
The French superstar is set to enter the final six months of his current deal with Paris Saint-Germain, who were left angered over the summer after he refused to sign-off on a one-year extension. Having been cast aside in pre-season before he was hastily reintegrated into PSG's first-team once the Ligue 1 campaign began, Mbappe has so far enjoyed another impressive term when it comes to scoring goals, although the uncertainty surrounding his long-term future is becoming more and more of an issue.
After it emerged earlier this month that 'dream club' Real Madrid have finally ended their interest in signing the 24-year-old due to his unwillingness to force a move in recent years, the door has opened for Liverpool to launch a pursuit of their own. Mbappe is free to negotiate with other clubs from January and reports from Spain suggest that Jurgen Klopp's side are currently front of the queue.
Although that could change if Real Madrid decide to rekindle their long-running interest, they don't have the special advantage working in Liverpool's favour. That's because the Reds boast an important ally who'll be crucial to deciding Mbappe's future: his mum.
Fayza Lamari, who also acts as his agent, "loves" Liverpool and has previously held talks with Anfield chiefs. "We talked a little bit, but not too much," Mbappe revealed to the Telegraph last year.
"We talked a little bit. I talked to Liverpool because it's the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don't know why, you will have to ask her! It's a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It's a big club."
