Mikel Arteta has issued an update on the futures of Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu ahead of Arsenal's clash with Brentford this weekend. The Gunners will welcome the Bees to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon as either side hopes to climb the Premier League table.
Arsenal head into the tie off the back of a 6-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, crowning themselves as the only team to ever to win three successive away Premier League games by five or more goals. Meanwhile, Brentford will be determined to return to winning ways and distance themselves from the relegation zone.
Thomas Frank's side have lost each of their last four games, suffering defeats to Liverpool, Manchester City and West Ham before snatching a point against Chelsea. Nevertheless, speaking to reporters ahead of the fixture, Arteta was quizzed on the futures of White and Tomiyasu.
The former sees his contract in north London expire in 2026, while the latter's deal is set to end in 2025. The Gunners boss said: «Not really. I leave that more to Edu and the club to announce those things when the time is right.»
Earlier this month, Arteta was asked to comment on the flurry of bumper contract extensions dished out by Edu over the last year or so. Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have been among several Arsenal star to pen new deals at London Colney.
«We know with those players, their tummies are still very empty – because they haven’t won a lot and they want to improve,» said the Gunners boss, as quoted by the Mirror. «That’s part of the reason why we wanted to renew because we know this is something that could be motivating to them and that gives them reassurance.
