Motherwell's Lennon Miller on silky skills that set up goal in Celtic defeat and 'gutting' late sucker punch

Motherwell starlet Lennon Miller gave Celtic skipper Callum McGregor the slip to set up Blair Spittal for a sensational strike.

But the 17-year-old admits a couple of late sucker punches from the visitors have left him floored.

Lennon lit up an enthralling clash at Fir Park yesterday when his silky turn on the edge of the box bamboozled the Scotland midfielder, allowing him space to tee up Spittal to send a tremendous curling effort beyond Joe Hart for the game's opening goal after 43 minutes.

However, the Hoops came out fighting in the second half to quickly level through Adam Idha and the Irishman left the Steelmen pig sick with a 94th minute strike before Luis Palma wrapped up a 3-1 win two minutes later.

And while Miller's moment of magic will, no doubt, go into the teenager's highlights reel, he would have preferred to see Motherwell pull a shock result out of the hat against the title-chasing side.

"It was nice to get the assist with a wee bit of trickery but we wanted to get the three points, or at least one, and we never got that so it is disappointing," said Miller, who has missed a chunk of the season with a knee injury.

"It is gutting the way it ended. We obviously had it here the last time we played them at Fir Park as well, with the last minute goals [in a 2-1 defeat in September].

"I thought the boys were really good. We were aggressive and played well so to get that sucker punch in the last couple of minutes is hard to take.

"Obviously, the highlight is going to be the assist, but I felt like I got across the pitch well and played well.

"I thought in the first half we were really good. We created so many chances and we limited Celtic to few.

"But in the second half, we lost our way and dropped back a bit.
