Mauricio Pochettino is still working with a depleted number of Chelsea players even if some of his stars are gradually returning. Against Brentford it was yet more trouble though as both Enzo Fernandez andMykhailo Mudryk were left out at late notice.
Reece James made another appearance but was only able to come on from the bench once more whilst Benoit Badiashile still awaits his introduction to life under Pochettino. Carney Chukwuemeka is yet to return either despite making the bench before the international break against Burnley, he has had another setback in his recovery.
This is to add onto the long list of players that are out for the long-term including Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana. It's Blackburn up next for the Blues in the Carabao Cup and a chance to rest some of those that have been overburdened with minutes due to the lack of squad depth.

Chelsea's midfield maestro was a big miss from the squad against Brentford having played in every other game so far this season. His partner gave birth to their second child earlier in the week which had raised speculation that he would miss the game for that reason but his manager explained before kick-off that there had been a fitness issue as well.
What Pochettino said: «Yesterday, both Enzo [Fernandez] and [Mykhailo] Mudryk felt a small muscle issue but hopefully for the next game, they'll be available.
»Misha (Mudryk) as well, we’ll miss both but we have a big squad and we’ll find the solutions."
Possible return date: Blackburn (H) — November 1
