Mum's home business rivals the beauty of Willy Wonka's chocolates

A mum-of-two channelled her love of chocolate into a thriving business that would rival the spectacle of even Willy Wonka's creations.

Unhappy with her "uninspiring" London job, Rebecca Birtwistle took a day off to attend The Chocolate Show, an up close and personal celebration and history of the sweet treat. What she didn't realise is that this one evening would plant roots and become the origin story of how she found herself at the helm of a bespoke chocolate business.

The 37-year-old told the ECHO: "The Chocolate Show was really inspiring and it felt like these small-scale makers were really making a difference. I loved chocolate anyway but the visit definitely sparked an interest that went above and beyond your usual chocoholic."

Years later Rebecca relocated from Peckham to Toxteth with her born and bred Scouse partner who she was envious of due to his self-employed status and penchant for "winging it." Rebecca was contemplating her own career path at this stage and knew if she was to make the jump she'd have to go down a path she was driven by. After much consideration, chocolate was the core of her inspirations.

She said: "I was inspired by a movement of chocolatiers that were creating bold, colourful chocolates using airbrushing techniques, and knew from the start that I wanted to create chocolates that stood out visually. I also had a background in design so I wanted to create a business that I could bring my artistic skills to."
