Cork City boss Tim Clancy has begun his Rebel Army rebuild with the signing of Cobh Ramblers ace Jack Doherty.
Newly-installed boss Clancy noted that an announcement of new singings was imminent at his press conference last week, with attacker Doherty the first of a number expected in the near future.
Diminutive forward player Doherty impressed for Cobh throughout the 2023 First Division campaign, scoring 18 goals as a then-Shane Keegan managed side finished third.
Previous to his time in East Cork, the Tipperary native enjoyed fruitful spells at both Wexford and Longford Town.
Speaking on the move, the 29-year-old said his move to City has "been a long time coming".
“It’s been a long time coming, to be honest. It’s a pleasure to be here and I am really looking forward to playing in front of the Cork City fans.
“I’ve been chatting to Tim about his plans for the coming season. It’s a big club; this club shouldn’t really be in this division, but we are here and we need to take that and try to win the league and get promoted.
“It’s always nice to score goals; I hope to add more goals this season to what I did last season. I like to create things, to get on the ball and, if I am not scoring, I want to be supplying goals for other players.”
City boss Clancy noted his delight at getting a player of Doherty's quality in the door.
“Jack is an exciting attacking player who is capable of getting plenty of goals. I think the fans are really going to enjoy watching him, and he is the type of character we want in the club as well.
