Newcastle took their chance to wind up Sunderland as much as possible after beating them 3-0 in the FA Cup.
The Magpies made light work of their Tyne-Wear rivals at the Stadium of Light in their first meeting since March 2016.
A double from Alexander Isak and an own goal from Daniel Ballard gave Eddie Howe an easy win to relieve some pressure and progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Sunderland fans that were still in the ground were left seething while the Newcastle supporters behind the goal were celebrating wildly.
Boos could be loudly heard from the home end directed at the away supporters, where 6,000 Geordies had made the trip down.
Speaking live on talkSPORT at the time of the incident, Faye Carruthers said: “Oh I can tell you, there’s something that is not going down particularly well at the moment with the Sunderland supporters… I’m not sure how well-advised that is.”
Alongside her, ex-Leeds star Lucy Ward said: “Yeah, they usually wait to have a team photo in the dressing room, but Newcastle have decided to have it on the pitch, all the players and staff, there's about 50 of them, in front of the away fans — it hasn't gone down well around us.”
Carruthers added: “It most certainly hasn’t with those Sunderland supporters still here at the Stadium of Light, of which there aren’t many as they probably want to get away from this as soon as possible.
“Listen to the sound, some of the Newcastle players are throwing their shirts into the crowd, a reward for some of the 6,000 fans who travelled down from St James’ Park in coaches first thing this morning.
