Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stressed his involvement in Manchester United has nothing to do with financial gain and is instead a case of re-establishing the club as a global force.
United have been unable to carry forward the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson and have failed to win the Premier League title since the Scot moved on from Old Trafford in 2013.
Many supporters believe the Glazer family have played a key role in the demise of the Red Devils in the last decade, though have been left encouraged by Ratcliffe acquiring a 27.7 per cent minority stake in the club and the possibility of a brighter future.
One of Ratcliffe's priority tasks will be helping United fix transfer mistakes of the past and the potential appointment of Dan Ashworth as sporting director would be a positive first step in addressing this issue.

Making clear his motive behind becoming a co-owner of the club, the British billionaire told United's official club website: "I'm not interested in the financial aspects of this investment at all. I make enough money in chemicals, oils and gas. This is not a financial investment, it's because I'm interested in seeing Manchester United being successful again. It hasn't been successful the last 11 years and it needs to get back to where it should be, which is at the top of the game.
"Those who live in Manchester and go to the game every week want to see the team winning because that's so enjoyable for everybody. We recognise that. It's all about the fans.
