According to Foot Mercato, Nottingham Forest have joined Villarreal in the race to sign Olympique de Marseille winger Ismaïla Sarr (25).
Sarr only joined Marseille from Watford in the summer for a reported €13m fee. Whilst the Senegalese international, currently competing at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), was one of the first names on the teamsheet under Marcelino, he is ill-suited to Gennaro Gattuso’s system, and OM are therefore open to a departure this month.
The former Watford winger is still held in high esteem by Marcelino, who is now manager of La Liga side Villarreal. The Spanish club are interested in doing a deal before the closure of the transfer window on Thursday, but according to Foot Mercato, they may now face Premier League competition.
Whilst Nottingham Forest are yet to contact Les Phocéens regarding Sarr’s transfer, contact has been established with the player himself in order to convince him of a move. The Premier League side are now pushing to secure the OM winger’s signing before the closure of the window.
