Danny Murphy has shared messages from Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, who was this week rushed to hospital after a health scare during training.
Hodgson, who is the oldest manager in the Premier League at 76, fell ill on Thursday and was quickly taken to hospital where he is now stable.
It seems his time as a manager might be coming to an end, as Palace were planning to replace him with former Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner before he fell ill. Now, Murphy has revealed that Hodgson has hinted at retiring from his impressive career.
Murphy, who was Hodgson's captain at Fulham and helped them reach the Europa League final in 2010, has stayed in touch with the experienced manager and sent him messages after hearing about his illness.
«Not only was Roy Hodgson a major influence on my career, he's someone I've stayed close to after I hung up my boots, which isn't always the case in the football business,» Murphy told the Daily Mail.
«I messaged him after the worrying news that he'd been taken ill at Crystal Palace's training ground and was reassured by his replies. He said he was feeling fine, taking stock and prioritising his health. It was good to hear.
