Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner hails 'wow' moment after Burnley win in first game
New Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner celebrated a memorable first match in charge seeing off Burnley with a 3-0 home win. Despite his clear excitement, he insisted that his team remain «humble» after the victory that pushed them eight points above the relegation line.
Even though the Austrian manager, who only started training on Wednesday, had stated he is «no magician», he has managed to make a significant impact on and off the pitch already.
There was a noticeable lift in the mood both in the stands and on the field after Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta scored, giving Palace a triumphant victory. The elated crowd's support certainly made an impression on the new Premier League manager.
Glasner shared: «The players from the beginning, the players who came into the game, and also the bench, you can feel this. There was a good spirit. You are more often than me at Selhurst, but for me it was 'wow.'»
He continued: «Before the game in the locker room, what kind of spirit the players showed, what kind of power they showed, and for me it was 'wow' again when I entered the stadium before the game.»
According to him, in such an environment, one is able to showcase their best performance. He admitted: «In such an environment you're able to show your best performance. I don't think it was our best performance, but it was OK for the start.»
«We know this is something we can build up our ideas, we can work the next weeks, and it's also important to stay humble now. We know it was a very good performance, but they could also see many things we could improve and we will continue working on it.»
