It as the shock result of the day in the Premiership against 10-man Glentoran – they had defender Paddy McClean and manager Warren Feeney red carded.
Marcus Kane headed the Glens into the lead when Cammy Palmer provided the cross on 13 minutes for the skipper to plant past Ross Glendinning with the flick of his head.
After surrendering all the first half possession, Rangers levelled five minutes into the second half when Danny Purkis finished off a cross from Andy Mitchell.
Glentoran took the lead with 20 minutes remaining, Jay Donnelly heading in a great cross from Daire O’Connor.
But the plucky visitors came back again two minutes later, when Purkis drilled in from the spot. The penalty came about after the striker had rounded Paddy McClean, who duly handled the ball on the ground.
McClean was then dismissed by referee Lee Tavinder.
Carrick then took the lead for the first time with seven minutes left when Allen flicked home a Kyle Cherry corner kick. Feeney was then dismissed injury time for speaking out of turn.
