Glentoran manager Warren Feeney is hoping more work on the training ground will help see his side be more ruthless in front of goal.
The east Belfast side played out a drab 0-0 draw against Coleraine on Monday night but they should have found the back of the net in the first half as Junior and Jay Donnelly spurned wonderful opportunities, with Jonathan Russell also guilty of missing a close-range header.
However, Feeney — who returned to the dugout after being suspended for the BetMcLean Cup defeat to Linfield — admits he would be more concerned if his team weren’t creating opportunities to find the back of the net.
“It’s the story of our season,” Feeney said about the missed chances.
“This season Coleraine are really the only team who have put us to the sword at The Oval.
“We probably could have been two or three up at the break. That’s what strikers get paid to do.
“I think Jay Donnelly has been phenomenal for me over the last few weeks.
“If you get him fit and firing you’ll have the best striker. I thought he was outstanding on Monday night.
“Junior put in a great shift, but I just told him to be a bit more ruthless in the box, but it will come.
“I would be more worried if we weren’t creating chances. So this is something we can work on in the training ground.
“Being a striker myself, we always say to them when they watch the top players like Chelsea and Man City on Sunday they get in there and want to score goals.
“I keep saying to my boys that if they score in training they’ll score in games, so that gives us something to work on in training.”
