Pep Guardiola fires Man City response to UEFA chief guilty FFP claim as Arsenal await punishment

Pep Guardiola has fired back at UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin after he claimed that Manchester City were guilty of historical Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches despite the 2018 case against the current Premier League and European champions being overturned.

In an interview with the Telegraph Ceferin doubled down on UEFA's stance, saying, “We know we were right," after City were banned from competition five years ago for financial wrongdoing. The sanction was then removed after an appeal through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

City are still dealing with alleged misdeeds to this day though as the Premier League currently have 115 charges waiting to be reviewed by an independent commission. It comes at a time whereby Everton have been docked 10-points for break domestic financial regulations themselves — though it is an extremely different case to that of City's — and Nottingham Forest face possible punishment too.

Ceferin's comments relate to a previous case though. «We wouldn’t decide if we didn’t think we were right.” he added: “As a trial lawyer for 25 years, I know that, sometimes, you win a case that you are sure you will lose. And, sometimes, you lose a case when you’re sure. You just simply have to respect in a serious democracy the decision of the court.

“I don’t want to speak about the case in England. But I trust that the decision of our independent body was correct. I didn’t enter into this decision.”

His words haven't gone down well with Guardiola. „As a lawyer, he should wait, and after he can do whatever he wants,“ snapped back the City boss. „Whatever sentence there is about UEFA he has to respect it.
