WEXFORD FC are set to move to a new 6,000 capacity stadium within the town.
Wexford County Council is also working with Wexford GAA for the provision of a state-of-the-art all-weather 4G pitch within the development.
The potential move has been confirmed by Wexford County Council CEO Tom Enright, who said that a League of Ireland stadium will form part of the council's ambitious plans to house a university campus, two new schools, housing and other sporting facilities within a land bank in excess of 100 acres stretching from Killeens to Whiterock Hill.
The council also plans to provide land for Wexford GAA to install a new full-size 4G pitch.
With Ferrycarrig Park situated within the corridor for the new M11 Oylegate to Rosslare Harbour motorway project, Wexford FC faced a race against time to secure an alternative home or risk losing the club's League of Ireland status.
The club is likely to have substantial financial resources available for the development of new facilities, following the compulsory purchase of Ferrycarrig Park for the motorway project, and Wexford County Council will provide the site at Killeens on a reasonable long-term lease.
Within the club, hopes are high that a move to Wexford town will have a massive positive impact and will see the club grow well into the future.
'This announcement is now just great news for Wexford FC, but it's also great news for Wexford football as a whole,' said Wexford FC CEO, Tony Doyle. "These facilities will be there for everyone, the Wexford Football League, the Women's League and Wexford FC as the League of Ireland club.
