Real Madrid sent scout to watch Rennes players in Breton derby win
For the second time this season, La Liga giants Real Madrid have sent a scout to monitor several Rennes players during Sunday’s Breton derby against FC Nantes, according to a report from SportsZone. Sources contacted by Get French Football News can confirm that a Real Madrid scout was indeed at the Roazhon Park last night.
SportsZone understands that one of the players being monitored was attacking midfielder Désiré Doué (18). Doué, which means “gifted” in French, is the latest promising prospect to come through the ranks of the Stade Rennais academy, one of France’s best. Although he’s still raw, Doué’s talent is absolutely evident. PSG winger Ousmane Dembélé, Bayern Munich centre-forward Mathys Tel and Real Madrid versatile midfielder Eduardo Camavinga have all learnt their trade at Rennes.
At only 18, Doué has logged six goals and two assists in 55 appearances with Bruno Genesio’s side. On Sunday, the talented midfielder started the Breton derby on the bench and entered the fray at the 70th minute, replacing Swiss international Fabian Rieder. Three minutes later, Doué was off the mark in thwarting France international goalkeeper Alban Lafont, restoring the hosts’ lead.
Doué’s older brother, right-back Guéla (20), was also decisive minutes after coming on. He obtained a penalty in injury time. Given Real Madrid’s need to rejuvenate their right-sided defensive flank with Dani Carvajal (31) and Lucas Vazquez (32) going past their peak years, it would not come as a surprise to learn he too was being scouted by La Casa Blanca.
