Dani Alves could be released from prison as soon as July 20 this year, it has emerged.
The former Barcelona and Brazil defender was sentenced to four and a half years in jail on Thursday after he was found guilty of raping a woman at a Spanish nightclub on December 21 2022.
The married 40-year-old father-of-two was on Thursday facing his first night behind bars as a convicted sex offender. He had been held on remand at Brians 2 Prison near the Catalan capital since his arrest in January last year.
While he was given a sentencing of 54 months, it has been revealed that he could be free in as few as five by receiving his provisional release.
Though the judge will have the final say on any early release, good behaviour could see Alves let out early having served a third of the sentence given to him.
Alves' sentence will run from when he was arrested in January 2023, meaning he has already served over a year and could be let out when a third has been served in July.
According to AS, however, it's unlikely that will happen due to a potential return to Brazil from Spain.
In April 2025, meanwhile, he could be granted permission to sleep and spend weekends at home, again depending on good behaviour.
The woman he was found guilty of raping insisted the footballer had forced himself on her after hitting her when she gave her evidence in court behind a screen.
State prosecutors wanted him jailed for nine years and a lawyer acting for his victim had demanded he was caged for 12 years if convicted.
