Rio Ferdinand makes feelings clear on Arsenal's "impossible" Aaron Ramsdale situation

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has made clear he feels Aaron Ramsdale is facing an uphill battle to save his Arsenal career.

Ramsdale started the season as the Gunners first-choice goalkeeper, but soon lost his place to summer loan signing David Raya. Many fans and pundits alike questioned the thinking behind Mikel Arteta's decision to drop Ramsdale, given he hardly made many glaring errors.

In actual fact, it is Raya's performances that have come in for criticism after the Spain international has made a few errors over Arsenal's last two league games. Many deemed him at fault for Mykhaylo Mudryk's goal for Chelsea last Saturday during the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The mistakes have led to some calling for Ramsdale to return to his role between the sticks for Arsenal as No.1 goalkeeper, but Red Devils icon Ferdinand feels it is not as simple as throwing the England international back into the line-up as if everything is back to normal.

Speaking on his VIBE with Five podcast, Ferdinand claimed: "For people to say, ‘oh, he’s got to deal with it’, they’re wired differently.

"Saying that Raya can come in and take the No.1 shirt just like he has out of nowhere, and that Ramsdale is going to be okay to go back in there, because Ramsdale is going to be thinking, ‘I’m on icy ground no matter what happens, I might play a ball that’s a difficult ball, and it might get cut out’, immediately his first thought is, ‘what’s the manager thinking, what’s his mannerisms, what’s his body language’, immediately because he’s now uncertain of his position."
