Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane was 'forced to flee to Greece' due to the renewed conflict between Israel and Hamas after attacks over the weekend by the militant group based in Gaza.
Keane is currently the manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv, with former Irish teammate Rory Delap employed as his assistant. The pair were appointed in June 2023 on two-year contracts.
It has been reported by talkSPORT that the two men took refuge in a panic room for several hours following the initial attack before being evacuated from the country.
The record senior Irish goal scorer and appearance holder moved into coaching following his retirement from football, with coaching stints at Middlesbrough, the Republic of Ireland, and on Sam Allardyce’s staff at Leeds before assuming his first managerial role with the Israeli team.

When Keane joined the club earlier this year, he said: "I am happy to take on this challenge at Maccabi. My team and I are already looking forward to starting work and we are confident in our ability to do what is necessary to prepare."
The 43-year-old faced scrutiny over his decision to take the job, which he sought to address in his press conference unveiling. Keane said: "I don't want to get into politics. This is the last time I will say it, I certainly don't want to get into politics. I'm here as a football man and someone that loves the game, so I will certainly just focus on that but thanks for your question."
