Rory McIlroy found himself in unlikely company discussing his role in golf's ongoing civil war.
Premier League legends Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Ian Wright recently welcomed the four-time major winner to their podcast 'Stick to Football' and the controversial breakaway tour came up in conversation.
McIlroy has been a vocal critic of LIV Golf, although the PGA Tour look set to join forces with its Saudi backers in the near future as talks with the Public Investment Fund continue.
The Northern Irishman has recently softened his stance on the league, particularly in light of Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm signing a reported £444million deal in December.
McIlroy also happens to be a boyhood Manchester United fan and a multi-millionaire, who has previously spoken about the possibility of minority investment in the Red Devils.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently bought a 25 per cent stake in the club for £1.25billion, while the Glazer family retain majority control.
McIlroy could only laugh as United legend Neville forwarded a wild theory.
Neville joked: «If you signed that LIV contract for £1billion, that would get you about 20 per cent!»
Meanwhile, Liverpool icon Carragher left the room in stitches as McIlroy spoke about the mouthwatering sum collected by Rahm.
When asked by Neville if he rejected a similar amount, McIlroy said: «I've never had an offer. I just didn't engage. I've set my stall out.»
Carragher immediately joked: «Do you regret that now?»
In more serious discussions, McIlroy admitted he would entertain the idea of LIV Golf if it found a way to exist in golf's current ecosystem, rather than trying to disrupt.
He suggested a model similar to the Indian Premier League in cricket.
